BM 302 ANALYTICAL & DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT

MODULE I

Basic medical Instrumentation system: Block diagram, Analytical equipments used in clinical environment – introduction, Beer-Lambert’s Law. Colorimeters- block diagram, Principle &applications. Spectrophotometers: basic sub components – monochromator, detection systems and amplifiers – single beam & double beam – visible, UV & IR (basics only) – basic applications in biochemical analysis. NMR & Mass spectrometers – basic principles & block diagram.

MODULE II

Analytical aids: Electrophoresis – principles and applications, Densitometers – principle and applications Chromatography – gas and liquid chromatograph – principle and applications, Flame photometer-schematic diagram-principles and applications, pH meter – block diagram-principles and applications, Hb meter -block diagram

FIRST INTERNAL EXAMINATION

MODULE III

Electro cardiograph- Pre amplifiers- Filters- Isolation circuits- RL driven circuit- protection circuits-Power amplifiers-Recorders Phonocardiograph– introduction to heart sounds-Instrumentation,Holter monitoring and recording cardiac stress testing – bicycle and treadmill tests – protocols,Pulse oximeter – Instrumentation.Patient monitoring systems – central station and bedside monitoring – arrhythmia monitors – arrhythmia detection methods

MODULE IV

Cardiac output measurement- different techniquesEvoked potential measurement system-types-stimulations-applications-instrumentationMagneto Encephalogram – principle of measurement and applications.Impedance Techniques : Bipolar and tetrapolar circuits , detection of physiological activities using impedance techniques – cardiac output, respiratory activity, Impedance Plethysmography

MODULE V

Audiometers – pure tone and speech audiometers.
Pulmonary function measurements :respiratory volumes, capacities, compliance and related pressures , dynamic respiratory parametersSpirometry – basic system – types and applications.Blood cell counters- methods- Coulter Counters- automatic recognition and differential counting.
Blood flowmeters – electromagnetic – ultrasonic Doppler blood flowmeters.

MODULE VI

Medical recording & display systems: direct writing recorders – ink jet recorders – digital recorders – thermal array recorders – video printers – electrostatic recorders – instrumentation tape recorders, strip chart and x-y recorders.
Medical display systems – single and multichannel displays – non-fade displays.
